It's time for another Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge.

Here's the sketch and the card I came up with.

           

 

I'm really having a fantastic time using sketches to jump start my designs and the sketches by Julee are so creative and fresh.  You should try them too!

The sentiment is from the Stampin' Up! set Happy Happenings #139381.  I made this card for a very special person in my life and she will get it in the mail.  Shh - It's a surprise!

I used the Label Bracket Punch 3 times to frame the "Thank You".  The first and third layers are Black Glimmer paper.  The layer inbetween is Gold Foil.  The way to get the layers is to punch the pieces and cut them on the diagonal. Then you just adhere them, fanning them out a bit.

Soon It Will Be...

 

You don't need a reminder, but, it really  - soon it will be Christmas Day.  

This stamp is from the Stampin' Up set called Cup of Cheer and it was perfect for this challenge for Mojo Monday 425. 

 

   

 

 

This sketch was perfect for the coordinating Designer Series Paper that Stampin' Up! has.  The pack used here is called Merry Moments and the traditional Christmas colors are bright and fun.  Don't they make you happy?

 

Here's a closeup of the stamped image.  A gold foil doilie is behind the sentiment and I used one of the Home for Christmas Designer Buttons with Gold Cording looped through and tied in a bow.

 

 

 

Here's a tip for you:  I used markers to ink the sentiment.  Always Artichoke for the boughs and Cherry Cobbler for the words.  Then I used my Real Red marker and added the berry dots.

How to Use a Stamp-a-ma-jig

I've talked about using my Stamp-a-ma-jig many times on this blog and for those of you who I've had the pleasure of stamping with, you've seen it and probably used it.  One thing I hear quite often is "I've got one of those, but don't remember how to use it".  Well, here's an informative tutorial for you from the Stampin Up home office.

Mosaic Madness by Stampin' Up!

 

 

Mosaic Madness by Stampin Up is one of the fresh new sets in the 2013-2014 catalog and it's so fun to play with!  The fact that there is a coordinating punch and embossing folder makes it over the top for me, PLUS there is beautiful designer series paper that goes with it too!  It's all part of the Quatrefancy Suite and can be found starting on page 120 of the catalog.  

  

I really like the simplicity of this card and we'll be making it next weeked at my stamp camp.  It features three of the images from the set and three of this years In Colors.  Pistachio Pudding, Coastal Cabana and Crisp Cantaloupe.

I also used the greeting from the Sweet Essentials set.  It's perfect for clean style cards.  Notice the banner is curved a bit?  All you have to do for that is gently bend the paper as if you were curling ribbon. First from underneath, then to the right and on top.

By the Tide Blog Hop

Greetings!  It's blog hop time!  I had to take a couple months off due to my brain surgery (yes, I still have one!), and I'm well on my way back to normal and getting my stamping mojo back.  I'm SO excited to stamp again!  What better way to jump back in but with a blog hop!  Woot woot!  Life is GOOD and I am so very blessed!

This month's featured stamp set is "By the Tide" by Stampin' Up! and is one of my favorites from the spring mini catalog.  As you'll see, it's perfect for all kinds of themes.  Theme examples are summer, masculine, beach, menu planning - lobster, yum and fun!

For the cards I created, I stepped them up a bit.  I love to watercolor and figured with the fish, I could really get some interesting colors on them.  So, that's just what I did. I stamped several of the fish images with Jet Black Stazon ink onto watercolor paper, then used my Aquapainter to lift ink from my stamp pads.  Then I cut out the images and shaped them a bit to make them more three dimensional.

 

Card 1 - "Right Direction"

 

Here are a couple of closeups of the focal fish.  In this first photo, you can see how I bent the watercolor paper to create a rounded fish.  Watercolor paper is made of cotton, so it stays wet a little longer, allowing for it to be molded.

 

 

This photo shows the colors of the fish best.  Notice how the colors bleed into each other.  Another reason to use watercolor paper.  Love this technique!

Card #2 - "Fish Big"

 

The second card I want to share with you features the fish again which were watercolored at the same time as the fish above was.  I cut them out and shaped the watercolor paper as before.  Once they were dry, I wanted them to look a bit shinier so I used my self created shimmer mist spray. It's super easy to create by mixing 2 ounces of rubbing alcohol with 1/2 teaspoon of Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint.  The photo doesn't show all of the shimmer, but trust me, it's there. 

 

 

For the Fish Big image, I used the hand image and put tape over the "wish", inked it up with my Stazon, removed the tape and stamped it onto my watercolor paper.  Then I used letters from my Designer Typeset Photopolymer stamp set for the word "Fish".

Baby Card Using Postage Due by Stampin Up

Here is a card I made for my boss when he and his wife had their baby.  "Postage Due" was the perfect stamp set to use because he bikes and the baby was their third child. He loved it!

 

 

 

 

 

 

To create this card and give it the detail it needed, I first cut out the image using a die (non-SU) and then sponged the edges to give it definition.  It really looked flat without doing this step.  I used So Saffron and More Mustard inks on the baby bottle nipple, and Marina Mist and Not Quite Navy inks on the bottle.

 

 

 

 

Then to accentuate the number 3, I stamped the image again on a piece of Whisper White cardstock, and punched it out with a circle punch.  I then popped it up using a Stampin Dimensional, placing it exactly over where the number 3 was on the card.  It's a great way to spotlight part of a stamped image and is a really fun technique.

 

 

 

 

This set is the perfect one to use for the bicyclists in your life.  As you can see, I used it in a way that is  a bit unusual, but worked out perfectly!

Wonderful Wonderfall

Happy Friday!  Here's a quick post for you today.  This card features the Wonderfall stamp set by Stampin Up.  It's so funky and fun!

The best part about it is that there is a die to go along with it,  Woot!  The trick is to die cut the shapes using your Big Shot, then using your Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, stamp the images.  Love it! (said in a sing songy voice)

Tips for Stampin Up's Clear Mount Stamps

In this video, Bonnie Thurber talks about Stampin' Up!'s clear-mount rubber stamps and why you'll absolutely love them!

 

A couple more tips for you:

• If you can't get the stamp to stick to the block, it's probably because of the oils on your hands getting on either the stamp or the block or both.  Just use your Stampin Scrub and Mist to clean the surfaces, then presto, they stick!  Some stampers don't adhere the image to the back of the stamp.  The stamps cling beautifully without the image.

 

• When you first assemble your stamps, and pop out the stamps from the rubber sheet, keep the outline.  Then peel off the paper and stick it on the inside of the DVD case.  When you're done using a stamp, you simply put it back in the space it came from.  This way, you can see if you have all of your stamps at a glance!

Congratulations Card Using Friendly Phrases by Stampin Up

A friend of mine is having a baby so I came across this card from the Stampin Up site.  How cute it this?  The best part, it's soooo easy!  I love how this card uses several embellishments across the card! What a great way to use those odds and ends that you never want to throw away?  Tell me?  What do you think?  How do you use up your "little of this and a little of that's"?

A tip for you to get the words to line up is to use the Stamp-a-ma-jig.  I love, love LOVE this tool! It gives you perfect placement every time!
