Babies, Brides & Butterflies Stamp a Stack

This Stamp a Stack is all about new beginnings and the celebration of those beginnings.  We'll make a total of 12 originally designed cards - 3 cards for weddings, 3 for babies (one boy, one girl, one neutral) and 6 note cards (3 each of 2 different designs) featuring one of the hottest trends today - Butterflies!  I'll have a variety of greetings for you to choose from so you can make them for any occasion you want!       Think of it as a speed making card session!You'll stamp all of your images,then put one of each design together so you can finish them at your table (if necessary). Class includes a full pack of a surprise embellishment that you'll use on your cards. We're not actually enjoying cocktails in this class - well, maybe afterwards, we could go to the bar (wink!).  We're making some fun cocktail cards using the Stampin' Up! stamp set called "Happy Hour"

World Card Making Day Contest

 

 

World Cardmaking Day is today, Saturday, October 5, and to celebrate Stampin' Up! is holding a contest you won't want to miss. After all, what's not to love about a holiday dedicated to card makers worldwide?!

There are two ways to enter: E-mail a photo of a card, or of you making a card, made with Stampin' Up! product on World Cardmaking Day to [email protected]. Post a photo of a card, or of you making a card, made with Stampin' Up! product on World Cardmaking Day on Instagram. Mention Stampin Up by typing @stampinup and use the hashtag #wcmd2013 in the description. Add #stampsnwhatnot to the description and I'll send you a hand stamped card! 

This contest is open to everyone-demonstrators, customers, friends, spouses, children . . . you get the idea. However, there are a few conditions:

• You must be over the age of 18 to win a prize.
• You can enter as many times as you wish, but each entry must feature a different card.
• Contest will last all day on October 5, from 12:01 AM to 12:00 PM.

The Day Before Convention Started

Convention is loaded with inspiration but so is the happenings leading up to it.  As I said in an earlier post, I participated in three, count em, three shoebox swaps and Wednesday evening, I had the other 2 of them!

 

Some of team mates from my group of Croppin Queens participated in this swap.  We hopped from one card to another and managed to get them all done.  Wish I had a photo of all of us at a table, but we moved too darn fast!

 

After our swap, we went to a wonderful restaurant to grab a bite to eat called Blue Lemon at City Creek.  All I can say is we need one in Virginia!

 

 

Talk about some beautiful and delicious food!  Take a look.

 

 

 

Okay, so back to stamping!  After dinner, I went back to the swap for my last round of shoebox swaps.  This one ran from 7-11PM.  I got all of these done as well.  That's a lot of cards!

 

 

As you can see, there were a lot of us participating!

 

This is the swap I did for this round.  It uses the very cute Animal Talk stamp set. We also made this card at my last Stamp Camp Saturday.

 

 

What really made this card is that I popped the frog up. 

 

It was just a little bit of fussy cutting.

Pre Stampin' Up! Convention Shoebox Swaps

Hi There!  I had full intentions to post while I was away at Stampin' Up!'s 25th Anniversary Convention, but to be honest, it was so jam packed with activity that there just wasn't time.  I'll start this series of posts with a couple days before it all started. 

I flew into Salt Lake City on Tuesday in order to participate in one of my very favorite activities.  A Shoebox Swap!  Okay, it was the first of three that I signed up for.  We did this first on from 7-11PM.  The other two were on Wednesday.  What is a shoebox swap you ask?  I'll tell you!  It was a 49 card swap.  That's a lot of cards!  What we did was make 25 full cards, then have the other 24 cut and ready to stamp and assemble.  We were assigned either group A or B (I was in A) and while we're creating our cards, the swap hostess is swapping the completed cards (from group B) for us so we get all 49 designs.  My first card was shown on my last post.  It's the one where I used the Chalk Talk set.

 

 

 

It was so much fun!  Not just because I was stamping, which you know is a blast, but because I got to met some incredible stampers.  We stamp, laugh, learn, and get to know each other.  That's just the way stamping is.  A fantastic way to create feed our creative souls while building friendships at the same time! 

 

Here's my friend Susan working on a card.  (Hi Susan!) I met her in January when we did the same type shoebox swap when we attended Stampin' Up's Leadership Conference in Orlando.  We'll spend many future dates stamping together I'm sure. We finished all of the swaps.  All 24 of them.  Not bad for running on 3 hours sleep, eh?

 

 

On Wednesday morning, I met Susan and her team for breakfast.   We met at the Lamb's Grill, the oldest restaurant in Salt Lake City.  It's a beautiful restaurant, rich with polished wood and high ceilings.  Breakfast was yummy too.

 

We exchanged business ideas, brainstormed and had a wonderful relaxing time.  More friends, more good times!

Another Card Using Collage Curios

Hi, it's me again! Today, I want to share a card that we'll be making on Friday night at my "Cards with Jeannette" Stamp Camp.  It will be at the Crops Plus crop in Dulles, VA.  We'll make 4 cards for $15 or it's free with a qualifying order*.  And get this - even if you aren't attending the crop, you can come take the class!  How cool is that!?!  Woo hoo!

 

I'm having way too much fun using the Collage Curios stamp set by Stampin Up!  For this card, my focus was on the rose and the butterfly.  

 

 

 

I tried to create the motion of the butterfly flying around the way they do by changing the angle that I stamped it.

Here is a card I made for my boss when he and his wife had their baby.  "Postage Due" was the perfect stamp set to use because he bikes and the baby was their third child. He loved it!

 

 

 

 

 

 

To create this card and give it the detail it needed, I first cut out the image using a die (non-SU) and then sponged the edges to give it definition.  It really looked flat without doing this step.  I used So Saffron and More Mustard inks on the baby bottle nipple, and Marina Mist and Not Quite Navy inks on the bottle.

 

 

 

 

Then to accentuate the number 3, I stamped the image again on a piece of Whisper White cardstock, and punched it out with a circle punch.  I then popped it up using a Stampin Dimensional, placing it exactly over where the number 3 was on the card.  It's a great way to spotlight part of a stamped image and is a really fun technique.

 

 

 

 

This set is the perfect one to use for the bicyclists in your life.  As you can see, I used it in a way that is  a bit unusual, but worked out perfectly!

Stampin Up Leadership Conference 2013

And Boy!  Was it ever fun and inspiring!  This may take a few posts for me to get everything in, so bear with me and keep checking back. 

I arrived on Wednesday and met up with some friends from Denver who arrived right around the same time.  We shared a cab and caught up a bit.  It's so nice having friends from all over the country.  We don't get to see each other very often, maybe twice a year if we're lucky, but when we do, it's like we've never been apart. I've made so many dear friends thru Stampin' Up!  I wouldn't trade these relationships for anything!

We went to the Rosen Plaza, where we were supposed to have a room (we booked way back in October) and found out that we had been bumped to the Doubletree.  They said that they had overbooked 50 rooms and that we were one of the rooms.  Hey Rosen Plaza - poor service and so not nice!  They should have let us know before we arrived as I'm sure they knew way before we got there.  Oiy! Lesson learned - call before we go and double check to make sure we really have a room. 

Anyway, we went to the Doubletree and got checked in.  Then we met some of my lovely team mates and their friends and went to Tommy Bahamas for dinner.  YUMMO!  Was the food ever tasty!

 

The next day, I attended a Leadership shoebox swap with my teammates.  It was very well run and the cards were fabulous!  Here's my card.  It features some of the Sale-A-Bration paper called Sycamore Street and one of the Vintage Verses stamps. 

 

 

 

After that, I headed over to the convention center , checked in then met my roomie Marjie and we set up for another swap.  Oh, do I have samples for you! Can't wait to get them up on my boards and to post some here on my blog so you can see.  Here's my card for this swap.  It feature the Sycamore Street paper again and the Just for You stamp from the Pop-Up Posies Designer Kit in the Spring Mini.

 

 

We went back to the hotel and got ready for the highlight of the evening - Manager's Reception!  This year, Stampin Up treated us to Harry Potter World at Universal!  We left on the buses from the convention center and went to the Wonderful World of Harry Potter!  We had the park all to ourselves!  How often does that happen to you?  Yet another great reason I love being a Stampin Up demonstrator!

I went to take a photo of the train, but had a tough time.  The conductor helped me get the settings on my phone so I could take some decent photos.  Of course I had to get a photo with him in it.  He never did break his wonderful accent.

 

Here's a photo of us that the Conductor took.  It captured the steam from the engine.  In this photo are from left to right are Marjie, Maria, me, Susan and Claudia.

 

Of course, Stampin Up had some "light" ho'rderves for us.  These things were HUGE!
